CITY OF WILKES-BARRE’S 31ST ANNUAL SAINT PATRICK’S DAY PARADE SUNDAY MARCH 13TH

WILKES-BARRE – The City of Wilkes-Barre is proud to announce that the 31st annual Saint Patrick's Day Parade will be held on Sunday, March 13, starting at 2:00 p.m. The parade features traditional family-favorites that have become hallmarks of the Wilkes-Barre Saint Patrick's Day Parade including traditional Irish pipe and drum bands, string bands, floats, giant balloons, local high school marching bands as well as some new additions to the parade lineup that people will need to come out and see for themselves.

 

The parade commences promptly at 2:00 p.m. from South Main and South Streets. Participants in the parade may begin lining up in their divisions at 1:00 p.m. Please see attached division assignments and lineup locations. The day's celebration of Irish heritage will culminate with the parade but there will be many other events and activities throughout the day. Just Plain Crazy Face Art will be located on Public Square and will offer holiday themed face paintings for $5.00 each. Also on the Square there will be hotdogs, kettle corn popcorn and homemade lollipops for sale. Barnes & Noble will have a holiday themed story time at 11am in their downtown store. The Hooley Boys will perform live on stage from 1pm -2pm on Public Square near the old Martz Trailways terminal.

 

The 2011 parade is proudly sponsored by Luzerne County Convention and Visitors Bureau, Franchelli Enterprises, Inc., Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs, Petroleum Service Co., Rosenn, Jenkins & Greenwald, LLP, Trans-Med Ambulance, Inc., Wilkes-Barre Hardware Bar, Pennoni Associates, and Geisinger Health System. Marie McCormick, City Administrator, is the honorary Grand Marshal for this year's parade.

The parade is a great opportunity to showcase the great City of Wilkes-Barre to residents and visitors from around the area,’ said Mayor Thomas M. Leighton, ‘The Irish people have made great contributions to the city and Northeastern Pennsylvania throughout its history and this is a time for all people to celebrate the heritage, customs, and contributions that have enriched our community.’

CITY OF WILKES-BARRE 2010 PARADE DETAILS ANNOUNCED

Parade to be broadcast live on WYLN 35

 

WILKES-BARRE - On Saturday, November 20, 2010, the City of Wilkes-Barre will kick-off the holiday season with a day full of events in downtown Wilkes-Barre, concluding with the arrival of Santa during the annual Christmas Parade, and lighting of the spectacular Christmas tree on Public Square. 

 

This year, Service Electric Broadband Wilkes-Barre and WYLN TV 35 have partnered to broadcast live television coverage of the City of Wilkes-Barre Christmas Parade. The pre-parade show begins at 3:00 p.m., with parade to follow. The City of Wilkes-Barre Christmas Parade can be seen on Service Electric Broadband Wilkes-Barre Channel 19, in addition to all of the WYLN TV 35 viewing area. ‘The City of Wilkes-Barre is proud to offer such a fantastic schedule of free, family-friendly activities.  We hope the community will join us in downtown Wilkes-Barre to celebrate the holiday season both next weekend and throughout the month of December,’ said Mayor Thomas M. Leighton. 

 

Schedule of Events

12:00 noon – 3:00 p.m.: Christmas Mural Painting

The public is invited to contribute their artistic talents to a mural painting on Public Square, sponsored by Downtown Wilkes-Barre Business Association and The Art League.

 

12:00 noon – 4:00 p.m.:  ‘Joy to the World’ at the Luzerne County Historical Society

Enjoy an impressive Christmas Crèches display and get into the holiday spirit with ‘make and take’ crafts at the Luzerne County Historical Society, 69 S. Franklin Street.

12:30 p.m.:  Storytelling @ Barnes & Noble

Children of all ages will be enchanted by a classic Christmas tale told by Mrs. Claus herself! 

1:15 p.m.:  YOUniversal Suzuki Strings at The F.M. Kirby Center  

These talented young violinists, accompanied by a piano, will perform in the lobby of the beautiful FM Kirby Center.  Be sure to check out the box office to see what other holiday shows will take place at the Kirby! 

2:00 p.m.: Christmas Carol sing-a-long with Ms. Ruthy Stock on the reviewing stand in front of the former location of Martz Trailways

A parade-day favorite, Ruthy will get the crowd into the spirit of the season while the parade makes its way up South Main Street. 

 

3:15 p.m.:  ‘Here comes Santa Claus!’ in Wilkes-Barre's Christmas Parade

Santa will arrive in Wilkes-Barre with music, floats and holiday fun!  The parade begins at the intersection of South and South Main Streets.  The complete parade line-up will be announced next week.  Please visit for the most up-to-date version as the parade day gets closer.   

Immediately after the parade:  Tree lighting on Public Square

Join Mayor Leighton as he flips the switch to illuminate the magnificent Christmas tree on Public Square.  There will be complimentary hot chocolate from the Salvation Army and $5 photos with Santa to benefit Valley Santa, courtesy of Boscov's.

9:00 a.m. -12:00 noonDowntown Arts community clean-up

Give back to the arts center that gives us so much! Show Downtown Arts some love by helping us paint, spackle, clean, organize and decorate. Or, donate frequently-used supplies such as window/floor cleaner, hangers, paper towels, brooms and printer paper. Downtown Arts is located at 47 North Franklin Street and is the home of Arts YOUniverse, Dance Theatre of Wilkes-Barre, the Wyoming Valley Art League and more!
